Can this assumption ('Karpanai') work out?

.
Now Harish Ragahavendra is back in the limelight.. Recall some of his fantastic numbers in the last couple of years. His first hit 'Nirpahduvae .." in 'Bharathi' was followed by several other nice songs. Eventhough, he has not sung under AR.Rahman (is there any song???), he was aptly supported by all other young Music directors. Some of his best songs, which really impressed me were...

Yeh..Azhagiya Theeyae (Minnalae)
Poovae Vaai Pesum podhu (12B)
En Nenjil (Dheena)
Mudhar Kanavae (Majnu)
Aagaya Suriyanai (Samurai)
Desingu Raja (Dum Dum Dum)
Vasantha Sena (Shree)
Sakarai Nilavae (Youth)
Mohalai Mohalai (Arasaktchi)
Devathayai Kandean (kathal Kondein)
Manasukullae Thagam (Autograph)
Uyirae Uyirae (Dreams)
Kanaa Kaanum Kaalangal (7G Rainbow Colony)
Kannum Kannum thaan (Thirupacchi)

Now the lights are on him again...not because of yet another song. But yet another hero role. His debut venture 'Vikatan', a thriller directed by Arun Pandiyan (with Gayathiri Raghuram) failed miserably to impress the audience. I had watched few scenes of the movie and Harish was able to express well in front of the camera. Too good for an actor.

But he needs something more...What is it?? The 4 letter word....L-U-C-K to be provided by the director & the story!!!! This time he is acting in 'Karpanai' with a new heroine. Eventhough he is very enthusiastic & forthcoming in doing this new role, he has to be helped a lot by the director.

Will this 'Karpanai' work out?

There were so many Singer-turned-actors in the field prior to him. But most of them acted in support roles, with few exceptions. So, they were able to survive in the industry in the acting arena also.

The Singer who really excelled well in acting in the last decade, was SP.Balasubramaniam. He had done a variety of roles and tasted the success there. Just think about his perfomances in Keladi Kanmani, Manathil Uruthi Vendum, Ullasam, Kadhalan, Sigaram, Piriyamanavalae..etc., Fabulous, isn't it? Malaysia Vasudevan too survived in the industry for a long time, with his villain & character roles in few memorable movies like Muthal Vasantham, KathaaNayagan, Poovae Unnakaga etc.,

Eventhough Hariharan acted in a tamil movie POWER (with Kushboo), the movie is yet to be released. We need to see if Hariharan can excel in this new role as well. Apart from them, we know singers like Manickam Vinayagam (Thiruda Thirudi), Mano (Singara Velan), Yugendran (Poovellam Un Vaasam), SPB.Saran (Unnai Saran Adainthaen) who are/were in front of the camera for the last few years. Yugendran & SPB.Saran moved to the small screen since their presence is felt very much there. Good opportunists...

I recently read that the Singer Grace (Seena thaanaa..fame) is also coming in front of the camera, following her husband Karunas. Karunas established himself as a comedy actor. Will his wife do so? Let us see.

(going back to the topic... )

I agree that it is an open stage situation in the dreamfactory. Anyone can come on the stage and prove their talent. But, Harish has to work hard to deliver in this new movie, to survive as an actor. He should not end up doing roles like Sonu Nigam did in Hindi, which didn't go well with the audience.

My best wishes, Harish...Hope you will keep on singing some more memorable songs, inspite of your busy schedule as a hero. Anyhow, singing is your core strength, right... Continue it!!!

I think its dumb on his part to try his hand at acting, jus coz he isnt singing that many songs now.. he doesnt look good enuf to be an actor... IMHO, he looks too girlish... doesnt have enuf height, looks anything, so gimme a break!!!

SPB tried his hand at acting, not when he was still a budding singer... but when he was the ultimate king in the field... when he was ahead of every other singer by light years!!

what Harish shud focus on instead, is honing his singing skills further... I think he over does the modulation bit in songs... very evident in numbers like Kanaa kaanum kaalangal... theva illadha modulation, which is one thing I hate in hariharan, this guy has it too... amongst the younger singers, Karthik is mucho better... great voice, good expression... So he shud focus on how to sing better and how to get better offers in singing, instead of trying his hands at new things and failing in everythign!!

Ram,
Harish is a wonderful singer. I didn't realize his versatality until I listened to him here last year. No wonder he got the 'Vaseegara Kuralohn' award from the TN govt.

His first song was a blast. IR/Bharathi and harish.! I liked all the songs you mentioned. But have you listened to this song ' Chennai senthamizh marandhaen' in the film Kumaran S/O Mahalakshmi. Listen to it. Good song and he has done a good job.

About singers and acting...I am not very happy about it. I think Malaysia Vasudeven lost because he went into acting. SP is a different story, he is too too talented, dubs, acts, sings, what not.!! Only thing he can't do ..I feel is run.!!!

Hari, I feel sad is losing out. Not sure why. Great voice great songs, yet not many songs. Wonder why the Hindi guys are neglecting him.! Actually Hari is my favorite.

there are too many players in the industry now, in all the fields.. it applies to playback also.. I always liked KK & Karthik.. they are also not getting regular songs..however better than Harish.

Harish is a wonderful singer indeed.. 'Nirpadhuve' still stands in my memory coz of his voice. I saw his first movie as an actor - Vikatan. kodumai da saamee... couldn't digest that. Very artificial. lets see how 'karpanai' unfolds.

'Vikatan' was a directorial mess... ArunPandiyan who directed the movie spoiled it.

I saw vikatan. Horrible. He can't act for nuts. He does sing good tho. nirpathuve is my favorite.
Current crop of singers are all ok, but no one stands out. Shankar Mahadevan is awesome imo.

Harish is a fantastic singer.. I guess Unni Krishnan faded away after he came in.. prob. its just a coincidence.. Unni is always Unni.. but Harish too is superb.. Nirpathuve, devathayai kanden are my fav.s..
He's good looking to in a way, but whether he has got that 'glamour quotient' is a question..
The same thing happened with Sonu Nigam in Hindi.. he's such a fantastic singer and is also has a charming look.. but not enough to be actor.. but he could suffice himself by 'acting' in his music albums.. prob. Harish could try something like that (if at all non-filimi music albums takes to air in Tamil).
