Happy Independence Day - India!!!

My Wishes to fellow Indians on this memorable day....

I thought it would be apt to reproduce today, the following speech delivered by Lord McCauley on Feb 2, 1835, in British Parliament. There are 'n' no. of sites like this one, which are talking about this speech. Even though, I cannot vouch the authenticity of this, it really has a message!!

Speech:
"I have travelled across the length and breadth of India and I have not seen one person who is a beggar, who is a thief. Such a wealth I have seen in this country, such high moral values, people of such caliber, that I do not think we would ever conquer this country, unless we break the very backbone of this nation, which is her spiritual and cultural heritage. Therefore, I propose that we replace her old and ancient education system, her culture, for if the Indians think that all that is foreign and English is good and greater than their own, they will lose their self-esteem,their native self-culture and they will become what we want them, a truly dominated nation".

We should be proud about an observation of this sort (initial few lines), by a foreigner. It is a pity that today we are lagging behind in several quarters. Hope to get back that glory as soon as possible, atleast before we reach this day in 2035 (2 centuries away from the day of the speech). Trust, we will be able to achieve it.

Note: SUN TV is doing its part for the Independence Day, by telecasting some patriotic songs in the early morning (before most of our young generation wake up!!). After that, the usual cine riots. Enjoy the holiday, friends...

If you missed to read the next post earlier, enjoy the same now.....

Happy independence day Ram

I don't know what vatsan meant, but I believe it is a very happy event, it is equivalent to a Diwali or Christmas and people need to rejoice the day that our people won their hard earned independence.

Ram thanks for posting this speech.

Hi Ram,

Happy Independence Day.

I am Kumaran, frm chennai who is a regular visior to ur blog.
I totally agree with u as Aug 15th is a day which passes of as another off-day except for one or two patriotic thoughts that races pasts our minds.

We need to seriously put our minds to it else this day will end up as just another day.

Vision 2020 calls for some serious thinking to be put into place

I read an article about how Britain is having a taste of its own medicine. Now they are losing jobs to Indians and outsourcing. The writer had pointed that it is apt justice for Britain having looted india during its reign and Indians are slowly getting it back..

Happy Independence Day!!!

I am not in favour of articles in magazines and newspaper which polarises people, like the one mentioned in the britain daily about outsourcing and stuff. Since this sort of stuff would only create a negative feeling among the group which is losing and does not make them think. That's my view of life.

I think we have already started making a good come back.I support ur notion completely that hopefully by 2035, we can be back to where we started in terms of our self esteem and not see a single thief or beggar, reattain the high moral standards we used to live by and once again bring our nation to her full glory
