Beware ATA, the next war starts....

Satellite TVs are proceeding against the wishes of ATA's motto... BTW, if you are unaware of ATA, it is nothing but Anti Teleserial Alliance created by some of our friends online.

A new soap is being launched on Oct-17th (coming Monday) in SUN TV 7:30pm slot, pushing the existing 'Muhurtham' one hour behind. Named as 'Malargal', it is supposed to follow the footsteps of 'Metti Oli' with the same 'Delhi' Kumar in the lead, but with 5 sons instead of 5 daughters... Long live those souls who have decided to strengthen the motto of ATA.

If you had escaped seeing Nila in 'Ah Aah' (I envy you, guys), you are getting a chance to see her today (saturday) in Vijay TV, 19.30 IST... Luckily or otherwise, I don't have the chance to watch it... Will she be talking in thanglish? Any guess...

As long as our people keep watching them, we'll only get over doses of these sob-shows.

Comeon TN , we need to laugh not cry, we need to relax, not stiffen up. We need to live...not die.

I hope things change in the Satellite TV world and in real life.!

I don't have VIJAY, so I am out of luck.!

ram: just saw the advt. for the new serial "Malargal" featuring Sulakshana in the recently installed Sun TV in our home. Its been 4 years since i saw Sun TV, but even the ads show the level of tears and emotional drama in these serials.

Vatsan.. Luckily we don't have Vijay TV in Singapore :-) :-)

Mr.Narayanan... I doubt whether it will change. TN housewifes is a lucrative sector for Tamil satellite TV channels. They will get more and more of these type of serials in future. The trend may change to 6 or 7 year serails rather than 2 or 3 years currently.

Lakshmi.. So, you watched it... Good that she didn't speak in 'mazhalai' tamil.

Mitr.. So, you are going to start the account with 'Malargal'.. enjoy and swim in this sentimental soap.

Rags.. ATA was started by some of our friends few months back.. Check this post relevant to your Q....

Siddharth... :-) Trust this ATA will get its momentum in the future and become big...

ME.. We have only Sun TV.. One SaT Tv is itself enough..not anymore.

Mr.Narayanan.. Discussion is becoming serious (!!!) Probably the same question might have been raised by our previous generation, when the movies started occupying TN couple of decades ago. But still movie industry is thriving with a new competition from the small screen industry.

Eventhough, there are overdose of sentiments in Tamil serials, I feel that it spreads the message on family relationship most of the time. Sometimes, I feel them better than sleazy movies like 'Ah Aah'. [Doesn't mean that I watch serials :-) :-)] For the industry, it is easy to produce sentimental stories to captivate the minds of TN audience. Only if the mind set of the audience changes, the mass no. of producers will move to other entertainment programmes...

What would be the replacement for the housewives' programmes? It is a big question.... I don't know still - as to which kind of programmes (either educational / religious / adventurous etc.,) can fit the bill?

Probably when the next generation rules the roost - I mean the future SaT TV era, the housewives may change from sentiments to some other areas....if not, the generation after that (our grandchildren tim) may decide the fate...

Anyhow, I won't say it is fate of TN alone.. it is there a national phenomena. Not only in India, but also in Singapore. Singapore local TV channels also have sentimental stories, eventhough they are not to the extent of our TN tamil serials. The lucky part is there are limited no. of soaps..since many ladies are working and don't find time to watch TV always. This situation may creep into our state also soon.. Let us hope for the best.

[My afterthoughts.. I can even extend this to a separate post, later on.... ;-) :-)]

Arjuna.. thanks for dropping by and for blgrlg me. Once upon a time (!!), I was also attachd with TV for mega serials.. But, later on, I realised that they are dragging too much. To make it interesting they should make the serials gripping without dragging a lot.

In Singapore, the chinese serials (which I used to see for sometime) will have only 20 episodes of 1 hr each. Beyond which they don't drag much.. Probably, our Tamil Serial producers can think on that line...

Glad that you have close contacts with Singapore.. next time when you visit, you can drop a mail...
