How long does it take, to mould an artiste?

It was a surprising unexpected news.. that Asin is out of much talked about 'Jillendru Oru Kaathal' and Bhumika is replacing her. Eventhough Asin worked on a strategy to quit the project, it may be hard to consider Bhumika as a replacement. Unlike Asin, who emoted well in her initial movies itself, Bhumika is still learning to express thru her face.

Bhumika who got introduced in 'Roja Kootam' and continued with Vijay's 'Badri', was recongised instantly due to her attractive face. However, acting wise she never got improved. Even recently, I saw one of her Hindi movies in which she retained a face without much emotion, even when the situation demanded it. Not sure, if she can show an improved perfomance in 'J..O..K..', to compete with talented(!!) Jothika and Surya.

If you take actors like Surya, Vijay etc., I agree that their performances improved only in their subsequent movies. However, they tried to manage in the interim movies with fighting sequences and dances without emoting much. However, heroines are required to show some emotions to remain in the field. Otherwise, they need to quit the field quickly like Kiran. They cannot depend only on the glamour...

Consider some of our heroines, who gained experience over a period of time. "Kizakke Pogum Rail" Radhika and "Kizakku Cheemaiyilae" Radhika are poles apart. Take Sulakshna of 'Thuural Ninnu Pocchu' and Sulakshna of "Sindhu Bhairavi". The way they had moulded their careers was amazing.

Consider Tara, who got introduced in Manivannan's 'Ingeyum Oru Gangai'. Eventhough she didn't get much break in Tamil, she showed a considerable improvement in 'Nayagan' as Kamal's sister. Her performances in her homeland (Kannada), had gone beyond heights and recently she got the national award for the 'best actress'.

Nowadays, our small screens are changing them a lot. Take Devayani. Her film career and the present career are completely different, in terms of performance.

Eventhough experience counts, some artistes remain same even after a couple of movies training. In my perception, Bhumika belongs to this cateogory. Some of you may disagree. Still, I would be glad if she does justice to the important role which she has bagged in 'J..O..K..'. Hope, director Krishna too does justice to the valuable resources which he has got now.. Surya, Jothika, AR.Rahman...

Titbit: Initial rumours that Nila will be the leading lady with Vijay in SJ.Suryah's 'Puli' has been thwarted with the latest news that Asin will do the role (as confirmed by her in the Sify interview). So, will Nila play a second fiddle in the movie, which is likely to be an action packed movie with Vijay's first ever Cop role? Let us wait and see...

How may Asin fans got a Heart attack reading this. :) Not me...I belong to the Nayan group..!! LOL :)

Bhumika - Is she Tabu's sister? She looks like Tabu.!!

Your take on Radhika, sulakshana etc..is perfectly correct. But both those ladies weren't introduced as glamor dolls like the modern day heroines.! That's MHO.

Take Tabu for example ..nice actress ..but I feel she didn't shine a lot..why?

Same applies to our very own. Bhanupriya, who had acting skills along with beauty...She wasn't successful.!

Bottom line...is something else...maybe luck..!! who knows.!!

But I really feel jealous about all the 50 year old heroes who dance with 20 year old heroines.!!

I enjoyed reading this Ram...after a long day at work, with fever/cold.!! Thank you.

Good Analysis. By the way, did Kamal have a sister in Nayagan..?? I am not sure though.. :)

Actually was Tara Kamal's sister or daughter?

Anyway, yes ram..that was real good analysis. I was quite sad about kiran leaving the industry. She actually put in some effort in weight reduction and all.. and had a sweet face. Gemini gave her a big break, and then she acted with Kamal in Anbe Sivam.. but poof she was gone..

I doubt Bhoomika will have any facial expressions to show, but maybe i might be wrong, considering of course Dheivayani. SHe is doing excellantly in the serial field.

It's easy to attain heights, but not so to keep it there.

Mr.Narayanan.. glad that you enjoyed it. Tabu is indeed a great actress. But, I feel her height may be a disadvantage. Her elder sister Farah, who was there in the field before her, used to be of a normal height. Bhanupriya.. she was good in her second stint, in Bhagyaraj's 'Sundara Kandam' and couple of other movies with Satyaraj

Anon.. Tara is the daughter of that old muslim man, who takes care of Kamal. She used to call him "brother..."

Reva.. Tara was the sister and the malayalee actress Karthika (who acted in Fazil's 'Poovizhi vaasalile') was the daughter... in Nayagan.

Probably acting in Jillendru Oru Kathal is way much safer bet rather than movies like Majaa & Sivakasi. But we are still unsure if the script and scope for acting in Jillendru Oru Kathal is way unbearable than the other two. If its so, looks like Jillendru Oru Kathal is another highly hyped movie without any precedence set.

Vatsan.. May be your are right with Trisha. I was impressed with her only in 'Gillie' and none other than that. May be some sort of luck.. or fans craziness that is keeping her in the top for this much time. I would say that Sneha is better in acting that Trisha.

Sundar.. You should be happy that with Asin and a Cop story in hand, SJ.Suryah will not try a sleazy story once again.. I hope so!!! Hope he will present a better story this time.

visithra.. yes, let us wait and see

Kaps.. I also agree with her smile. But sometimes I can compare it with Devayani's smile thru out her film career. In the most of the movies, she used to nod her head in a childish manner and smile. We used to pull her legs a lot.. However, with Bhumika we never used to even pull the legs. Let us see, whether she is giving opportunity for that or getting applause for her performance...

Reagan..welcome.. I like your comment. The role in Sivakasi was not a great one for Asin. She might have accepted before knowing what it was. Now that, she has got appreciation for her role in 'Ghajini', might have wanted to play safe.. Need to see, if her betting is on the right movie.

Its a long time since Bhumika acted in a tamil movie. Recently, I saw one of her Hindi flicks, Silusilay. It wasnt even a bit like what we had seen her in Roja Kootam and Badri.

Lets wait and see if its goin to be a masala role in this new movie!

If you see the list of Bharathiraja heroines ( I think its a universally accepted fact that he introduced the most of number of successful/long-standing heroines) and view their first movie , you would be surprised by their naivette. But he had the knack of spotting latent talent and most of them progressed really fast .

Btw, List of his heroines include Radhika,Radha,Revathi,Sukanya,Ranjitha,Rekha......

GTM.. :-)

Cogito.. U r right about BR's heroines.. I believe Revathi & Sukanya were better in their debut movies.

Vidya.. I do so :-)

Well said, Ram.. Bhoo played the role of Abhita (Sethu) in its Hindi remake (Tere naam).. I didnt see that movie... but if she had disappointed in that, I would totally agree with u.. Otherwise, I totally agree with u about her..

I heard a rumour that 'Puli' has been shelved.. It seems Suryah just wanted to raise his image of directing a Vijay movie, to help his 'Ah Aah'... I hope it is a wrong news.. Enna, if Suryah doesnt direct, he would start acting again!! :o

Ram, are you referring to Dil ne jise apna kaha by any chance.
In that movie, Salman and Bhumika would have been tough competition to each other for acting err... not acting

Raju..don't scare me with the fact that SJS will act more. Even if he does, we need to bear with it.

Anon.. u r right about that 'Sethu' remake.... they tried hard to act :-) :-)

Ganesh.. :-)

siddharth.. Chinna thirai is supporting so many people's ambitions to remain in front of the camera. Sarita is no exception, since the big screen doesn't want her much.
