‘Yaali’ for sale

We might have observed these sort of creatures in mythological movies or some crazy comic stories where the Scientists give life to odd creatures, to destruct or save the world. In our Indian mythology, we have seen so many mixed creatures like Kamadhenu, Yaali etc., We normally brush them aside as story characters..

Just think about seeing these mythological creatures (Dragon, Unicorn, Gryphon, etc) LIVE ….. in front of your eyes. Some people welcome that idea.. some may vehemently oppose it.

Not anymore, since people are spending so much efforts to create these creatures…

If Mr.Paolo Fril of GeneDupe succeeds in creating them, then you may take one of them to your house….

“…PAOLO FRIL, chairman and chief scientific officer of GeneDupe, based in San Melito, California, is a man with a dream. That dream is a dragon in every home….. Making a mythical creature real is not easy. But GeneDupe's team of biologists and computer scientists reckon they are equal to the task. Their secret is a new field, which they call “virtual cell biology”. …..

Each computer starts with a search image (dragon, unicorn, gryphon, etc), and the genome of the real animal most closely resembling it (a lizard for the dragon, a horse for the unicorn and, most taxingly, the spliced genomes of a lion and an eagle for the gryphon). The virtual genomes of these real animals are then tweaked by random electronic mutations. When they have matured, the virtual adults most closely resembling the targets are picked and cross-bred, while the others are culled.

Using this rapid evolutionary process, GeneDupe's scientists have arrived at genomes for a range of mythological creatures—in a computer, at least. The next stage, on which they are just embarking, is to do it for real…..”

Seems, he was in the news 6 years back, when he was about to introduce a real Gold fish , in which he couldn’t succeed and that project was scrapped.

If this team’s new efforts succeed, will it be for a Good cause or Bad one???

Just reconsider once again, availability of ‘Yaali’ for sale in your nearby pet shop…..

Mmm...somewhat intersting and somewhat scary.. who'd know how an animal with spliced genomes of lion and eagle would behave?!
Imagine you're lost in an African safari and you come upon a Gryphon..if it's a normal lion, then you can speeden your jeep and escape, but if its a lion with wings.. 'swoosh' it'll come and 'swoosh' it'll pick you off your jeep!! More creepy is the thought that people might come up with live Centaurs!! Really scary!

Its a case of man playing God. The 'Known is a drop ...' adage is applicable here.

Mutation is a dangerous experiment that bypasses the yeasr of evolution that an animal might have undergone.

Amrita.. (on screen)?? I am confused.. sorry :-) :-) Hope, it means that you don't want this cloning to happen really.

Shankar.. the story which you had narrated, brings some adventure movie in front of me!!

Jayan.. agree with you. However, today so many medical advancements are against the original natural creation. But lots of these advancements do good to the public. I doubt whether this new project will do good for the public
