Listen..Pick.. Name...

It was the pattern for a long time.. No dearth for this pattern in Indian movies, where they easily pick up some poetic or lousy names from the hit songs. But do they really make it worth watching - eventhough the titles are the hooks to pull in more audience?

Only few do..

This week, some of you would have noticed the ads for SUN TV's afternoon movies, which had 'Engitta Modhadhe' (Vijaykanth-Shobana-Kushboo) and 'Rajaa Kaiya Vachchaa' (Prabhu, Goutami) as the fillers. They, who picked up the titles from the songs of 'Rajathi Raja' and 'Apoorva Sagotharargal' might have grossed some returns in the 'B & C' centres.

Since an easy recognition is available, producers vie for these sort of titles.. However, nothing is guaranteed. All depends on its stuff.. and not merely on titles, as I had mentioned in some of my previous posts. Let us go thru a ride of movies, which were named after certain hit songs. I have classified them into 3 categories, as per my little knowledge. Suggestions are welcome.....

Hits / Super hits

MGR's 'Naan aanaiyittal' (out of his own 'Enga Veetu Pillai') & 'Ninaithathai Mudippavan' (his 'Nam Naadu')

Sivaji's 'Pattikaada Pattanamaa' (from MGR's 'Mattukkara velan'), 'Raman Ethanai Ramanadi' (his own 'Lakshmi Kalyanam'), 'Aalayamani' (his own 'Paalum Pazhamum')

'Nenjam Marappathillai' born out of Sridhar's own 'Nenjil oor aalayam'

Kamal's 'Manmatha leelai' (from Thiagaraja Bhagavadhar's 'Haridas') & 'Thoongathe Thambi Thoongathe' (MGR's 'Nadodi Mannan')

Rajini's 'Anbukku Naan Adimai' (is it from MGR's 'Pallaandu vazhga'???) & 'Raajadhi Raaja' (frm Mani's 'Agni Natchathiram')

Vasanth's 'Keladi Kanmani' (his mentor KB's 'Pudhu Pudhu Arthangal')

Vijaykanth's 'Amman kovil kizhagale' (from Kamal's 'Sakala kala vallavan') & 'Poonthotta kavalkaran' from an old movie.

All need not be super-hits.. Even if it is recognised, that would be enough for the team. Let us have a look into those few..

Recognised ones / Average grossers

Sivakumar's 'Kannan oru Kaikuzhanthai' (from 'Thankappadhakkam')& 'Then Sindhuthe Vaanam' (from 'Ponnukku Thanga Manasu')

KB's 'Manathil Uruthi Vendum' (his own 'Sindhu Bhairavi')

'Unnai Naan Santhitheen' (Mohan, Sivakumar, Revathi...) out of the hit song of MGR's 'Ayirathil Oruvan'

Manobala's thriller 'Pillai Nila' (Mohan, Raadhika, Nalini..) from Balu Mahendra's 'Neengal Kettavai'

Mohan's 'Paadu Nilaave' (frm his own 'Udhaya Geetham')

Rajkiran's 'En raasavin manasule' (Ramarajan's 'Enga ooru Pattukkaran')

'Rasave unna Nambi' of Ramarajan (frm BharathiRaja's 'Muthal Mariyathai')

Vasanth's 'Nee paadhi Naan paadhi' (his own 'Keladi kanmani')

Keeyaar's 'Eeramana Rojavee..' (Mohan's 'Ilamai kaalanagal')

Mani's 'Uyire..' (his own 'Bombay')

Vijay's 'Ninaithen Vandhai' (with Rambha - from MGR's 'Kaavalkkaran') & 'Nilaave vaa' (from Mani's classic 'Mouna Raagam')

Ajith's 'Aval Varuvaala?' (from Vasanth's 'Nerukku ner')

Cheran's 'Vetri kodi kattu' (from Rajini's previous hit 'Padayappa')

Radha Mohan's 'Azhagiya Theeyee' (from Madhavan's 'Minnale..')

KV.Anand-Srikanth's much talked about 'Kana kandein' (Srikanth's 'Parthipan kanavu')

You have more in this third category.... (potta panatha partha - paarkaatha padangkal)

B& C Centres / Unrecognisables / Flops
Sivakumar's 'Kadavul Amaitha Medai' frm KB's 'Aval oru Thodarkathai'

BharathiRaja's 'Kaadhal Oviyum' out of his 'Alaigal ooyvathilai'

Satyaraj's 'Pudhiya Vaanam' (with Sivaji) (frm MGR's 'Anbe vaa'), 'Engiruntho Vandhan' (remake of Malayalam hit 'Chitram') out of Sivaji's 'Padikkatha Methai' and also 'Ulagam Piranthathu Enakaaga' (out of a MGR movie ????)

Lady director B.Vijayalakshmi's 'Paattu Paada vaa' (Gemini's 'Thenilavu')

Prabhu's 'Thedinen vandhathu' out of his Dad's 'Ooty varai uravu'

Mohan-Rubini's 'Ninaikka Therintha Maname' born out of Sridhar-MGR's 'Anandha Jothi'

Ve.Sekar's 'Varavu Ettana Selavu Pathanaa' out of KB's 'Bhama Vijayam'

KS.Ravikumar's 'Muthu Kulika Vareegala..' from Nagesh's 'Anubavi Raja Anubavi'

Karthik's 'Aayiram Nilave Vaa' (MGR's 'Aayirathil Oruvan'), 'En Jeevan Paaduthu' (with Saranya, out of another flop 'Nii Thaanaa Antha kuyiL?' - which was in turn out of 'Muthal Mariyathai'), 'Nilave Mugam Kaatu' (with Devayani, out of Rajini's 'Ejamaan'), 'Unnai Nechcheen Paatu Padicheen' (from Kamal's 'Apoorva sagotharargal')

Vijay's 'Nejinile' (from Mani's 'Uyire') & 'Vaseegara..' (from Harris' debut 'Minnale..')

Madhavan's 'Ennavale..' (from Shankar's 'Kaadhalan') & 'Priyasakhi' (from Priyadharshan-Karthik's 'Gopura vasalilee')

Kunal's 'Engae Enadhu Kavithai' (Rajiv Menon's 'Kandukonden Kandukonden')

Shaam's 'Anbe Anbe' out of 'n' no. of movies.. (to pick easily, you can go for 'Jeans' song)

Jeeva's 'Aasai Aasaiyai' (Vikram's 'Dhool')

Pandiarajan's 'Sundhari Neeyum Sundharan Naanum' (Kamal's 'MMKR')

Prasanna's 'Ragasiyamaai' (with Gujarath earthquake background) from Madhavan's 'Dum dum Dum'

Dhanush's 'Devadthayai kanden' (his own 'Kathal kondein')

Recent junk movie 'Thaniye Thannandh Thaniyae' out of AR.Rahman's 'Rhythm'

Honestly, I don't know the fate & whereabouts of the following.... (seems to be in the can for a long time)

Karthik-Isha Gopikar's 'Kaadhal Solla Vandhen' out of Simran's 'Poochoodu vaa'
Prashanth-Amisha Patel's 'Enna Vilai Azhage' (Kathir's 'Kathalar thinam')

Guys.. you have some upcoming movies too which are falling into my trap... What do you think will be the strike rate for these new movies?

Parthi Baskar-Srikanth's 'Pambara Kannaale' (from 'Manamagal thevai')
Satyaraj's 'Devuda' (from Rajini's 'Chandramukhi')
Madhavan's `Kaettaverellam Paadalaam' (dubbed version of his hindi flop 'Dil Vil Pyar Vyar' with Namrata Shirodkar)
Crazy Mohan-'Jithan' Ramesh in 'Ithu thaan kadhal Enbadha..' (out of the song 'Netru illatha matram..' from Suresh Menon's 'Puthiya Mugam')

Are the following titles up for grabbing? Any idea??

'Lakha Lakha Lakha' (Chandramukhi)
'Kannum Kannum Nokia' (Anniyan)
'Kannum kannum Thaan kalanthaachu' (Thiruppachi)
'Suttum vizhi Sudare..' (Ghajini)

Your can share some more with our team... We might have left out a lot.

balaji / vee-jey.. :-) :-)

arvind.. I believe you are referring to 'manmadhan' the tile of which was decided even before 'manmadha rasa..' hit... It may be a coincidence that they are linked together. 'Markandeya..' any song starting like that? I am not aware.. may be an old song. (I know one 'baktha thruva markendeya' movie directed by Dr.Bhanumathi ramakrishna... are you referring to it?) Are you referring to Arjun's new movie...?

Siddharth.. she is yesteryear director BR.Bandhulu's daughter and was the first woman camerawoman in Kollywood. Check out this post of mine, which as well has few info on her.

GP.. :-) :-) Awaiting your post as well..

Prasanna.. Lollu.. :-) :-)

Arvind.. Oh.. You were suggesting, is it? I believe one of the new movies of Arjun has been named as 'Markendeya' (you can call it based on 'New' song) with Namitha in dual roles (thaangumaa bhoomi???)

My suggestions for future movies:

Vizhigalin Aruginil Vaanam (Azhagiya Theeye)

Annanoda Paattu - suggested hero - Ramarajan :-)
Kannum Kannum dhaan kalandhachu(Thirupachi) - with Madavan as a lover boy hero?
Nee Varum Bodhu (Mazhai)
Kurangu Kayil Maalai - with Simbu/S.J.Surya and Asin in the lead - pun intended ;-)
