Sillunu Oru Kathal - Review

This is the first time, it has happened during these last 18 months of my blogging. I didn’t post my movie review immediately after watching the movie.

It happened so, that I didn’t want to spend time for writing on this movie, amidst my tight schedule. After the hype surrounding the star couple’s wedding, the movie might have been over booked during the first week. However, debutant director Krishna has not provided a strong screenplay to keep that momentum going.

The director has started the movie in the style of ‘Roja’ and ‘Dum Dum Dum’. The village belle gets married to the hero and leads a happy life. After couple of years, she gets to know about his past and decides to fulfill his forgotten wish [to spend atleast a day with his former lover]. Krishna ends the story with a traditional ending.

Surya and Jyothika had done their best, to uplift the movie, eventhough Bhumika Chaawla couldn’t help much. She reminded me about my previous post, when she replaced Asin for this role. I doubt, whether Asin would have done a better job in this role, since the characterization is not that touchy.

Strengths:
1) AR.Rahman’s music and some good picturisation by RD.Rajasekhar.

Weaknesses:
1) Screenplay [especially, the weak love blossoming scenes and lot more…]
2) Vadivelu’s unnecessary presence and humour which don’t evoke much laughter

So, the movie has proved that ‘Melting titles’ need not make the movie a cool sweet one, as we had discussed it before.

I did hear a few not-so-complimentary opinions from a couple of other people who have seen the movie as well.

The picturisation (especially the New York Nagaram song which was shot in Lucerne, Switzerland) has come for criticism. I don't think ARR would give do music for first time directors from now on.

Ram-

First thing that I noticed was the change of location from Singapore to Bangalore on your blog- How does it feel to live through this transformation?

Although, I primarily watched the movie on the date of release here in San Jose to get a glimpse of the Surya-Jo couple, the movie was a sure let down. In terms of a weak love flash back between Bhoomika and Surya, but atleast the married pair of Surya and Jo was realistic to view.
